Seven major technologies, including information sensing technology, communication and navigation technology, energy efficiency control technology, route planning technology, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology, distress warning and rescue technology, and autonomous navigation technology, play an important role in the six modules.

In November 2018, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the group, customized the first 400,000-ton intelligent ultra-large ore ship for China Merchants Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. The "Mingyuan" was officially named and delivered in Shanghai. The ship can realize automatic driving, automatic obstacle avoidance, and independently select the best driving route based on objective factors such as marine meteorological conditions. It is reported that Mingyuan is the first demonstration ship of the national intelligent ship 1.0 research and development project.
