The 13 water plants that receive water from the South-to-North Water Diversion have an average daily water intake of 3.4 million cubic meters, which is the highest daily water intake since south water entered Beijing on December 27, 2014, accounting for 85% of the daily water entering south Beijing. It has effectively increased the total amount of water resources in Beijing and improved the security of urban water supply.

Since the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project was officially opened, it has benefited 24 large and medium-sized cities and more than 200 counties and cities along the route, directly benefiting a population of 85 million people. The project has changed the water supply pattern in the water-receiving areas and improved the water supply guarantee rate. The domestic water supply guarantee rate of each water-receiving city has increased from a minimum of less than 75% to more than 95%, and the industrial water supply guarantee rate has reached more than 90%. Since the water supply was opened, the water quality of the central line of water supply has continued to reach or exceed the Class II surface water standard, effectively improving the sense of gain, happiness and security of the people in the water-receiving area, and effectively ensuring the drinking water safety of the people in the water-receiving area.

In addition, in order to practice the ecological civilization concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", the middle line project has made full use of the flood resources of the Danjiangkou Reservoir in the pre-flood ebb and flood season since 2017. More than 9 billion cubic meters of ecological water replenishment has been implemented in more than 50 rivers along the route. Shallow groundwater levels in North China have stopped falling and rebounded. Dry depressions, lakes, rivers, canals and wetlands have regained life.
